Hi everyone so glad you came by to start learning all about options, Not only will we have discussions on options but the overall market and charts as well.  I am a friendly warm hostess and you will have fun at Hotoptionbabe.

I will be adding pages as on the basic greeks and basic calls and puts. We are trading in a very difficult time and using options for leverage and for risk management is paramount in this wicked bear Market rally. And mind you that’s what it is!

Please leave your thought and I am getting auto updating going soon too. For your Halloween pleasure :)

    thanx anna

  • You know I find it absolutely nuts that GLD is up with the $DXY up so high, WTF???
  • AS2009
Anna - great blog idea ... looking forward to learning a lot here :)
  • Hi AS thanks we will have a blast and I will still post on ES as well. :)
  • Richard
    Anna,
I follow you on ES and on Twitter, and saw the nice call on the AAPL spread.

So when I saw you using a Bear Call Spread to take advantage of AMZN earnings, you said you were "selling a 90 call buying a 95 call" -- meaning, you expected AMZN to tank.

Why not use a Bull Call Spread before earnings announce and then reverse like you did with AAPL? Or did you expect AMZN to tank -- or do you have some larger strategy in mind?

    Thanks!
    Richard

PS--I do software/web work in my other life. If you need help with wordpress or the blog, happy to help if I can.
  • Hi Richard, thanks, I did well on RIMM, Apple Google and ISRG, I was actually originally planning to do a bull call spread on AMZN, had it Monday and let those voices of others get in my head! A big NO NO :)
Yes I did reverse Apple but it kept going up, so I quickly got out of that one but I
So from now on go with my original plan.
Thanks so much for your offer (i may take you up on that :))))
  • Richard
Anna, got it. So did you ditch the AMZN bear call spread yesterday? If not: will you keep the long call side and scratch the short one or even sell a new call above the long one?

What's your strategy for recovery at the Open today?

(If you kept it and now have to deal with it this AM -- AMZN was over 106 after hours last night, readers of this blog will learn a lot. Not that I want you to lose $: but seeing how you deal with an adverse condition is as valuable -- or more valuable -- than hearing about a success.)

And yes, let me know if you need help. I've wanted to see a really good option trading blog running, so delighted you're doing this.
    Richard
  • Hi Richard,
I am trying to close it out at the open for a small loss, (if I am very lucky) but might end up buying back the short leg and keeping the 95 calls
I am going to capture some implied volatility (or IV) on the 90's so I will see @ the open, sometimes in trading adjusting the trade is the best course of action.

Again thanks so much and it's still a work in progress, still need to do my about me page. ie: My education on options and pages for the greeks, ect.
    :)
  • Richard
Ok, we're both busy trading today: will get back to you re those pages.

Re AMZN, I'm looking at other tech leaders: AAPL is down this AM and GOOG isnt up much. Thinking AMZN may hold and then fall off if we're at top of ST swing.

So thinking of selling long Call, buying a higher one, keeping short Call. Pushes BE to 109 *if* AMZN moves down. Risk is if it stays or moves up....

    IRON CONDORS are VERY Dangerous!
Why do so many options traders end up trading IRON CONDORS after they failed at buying options? Because it's very easy to make money selling options and win 85% of the time. You can actually make a lot of money selling options. But, if you're WRONG on ONE trade you lose everything. Have you been taught about Black-Swan events? If not, these are rare market events that unforeseen and can lead to huge market moves beyond your strike prices where you lose the entire margin allocated for that position.

anna, want to ask if you agree or not to the statement?
recently, i just learn how to make iron condor and using spread..
cause you know i am totally lost with buy and put option naked..
i am little confuse about the statement?
am i in the right path?
last question is why do you usually trading when earning.?
i read a post that it is dangerous to buy call/put before earning,it is very risky for the IV.
even if you are in the right ways, you will loss maybe a small money..
and if you are in the wrong way,you will suffer a lot.
because of this you will sell option when earning so even you are in the wrong direction we still can minimize our loss?
correct me if i am wrong.
    thanx again anna
  • Soem personally I don't like them, as you said if you're wrong you can really take a hit, I like to keep things simple. Low Risk High reward trades. I will be basically doing debit/credit spread and butterfies and broken wing butterflies, as well as the basic call/put but using the greeks to maximize our gains :)
  • soem27
    AMZN is gapping up
i should get out when it is open.. cause my BEP is still price AMZN 108
i am curious to know that why are you doing this?
change from bear put spread to a bear call spread.. it is the same situation (hope it will bear) but the one is for debit and the other one is for credit..
    whats the different?
    thanx anyway anna..

(girlfriend looking over shoulder) "Hot Option Babe???? I thought you were working on trading plans??"
(me) "Honest honey, she is one f the sharpest traders I have seen on the blogs. It as nothing to do with the name, figures in the banner or pictures!"
    (girlfriend) "uh huh"
  • thanks sweetie, Can't wait to get it open next week, hope you will visit often :)
  • Hey Lester, I haven't been on SOH, so i didn't catch all that ut oh!
I am so sorry to hear that! You have got to stop listening to all the noise around you sweetie and listen to your voice within. You have good instincts have your attention span is too short focus........ on the bigger picture when you trade. You do better as a swing trader and not a day trader. Day trading is a tough business and I when I scalp I can barely go the the bathroom or I can lose $. So are you getting what I am saying?
Tomorrow my thoughts longer term are long gold long oil Today I expected a slight pullback, so I went short for a scalp, but longer term I am going long. And you really should learn to do call/put spreads. :)
  • lester
    Hello anna,
If you have been reading SOH, you probably know that I really stunk up the joint today. Tim will probably ban me. My big mistake was going ube short today and I lost 20%. It is really bad and I am basically back to where I was 2 weeks ago (actually a couple bucks lower). It is easy to analyze my decision after the fact. The sad truth is that I had somehow convinced myself that the market had topped (maybe Moles post "weve topped" or a friends advice to "get out"). I am not listening to anyone again, as I knew that long was the play, but I went short becaseu everyone else was short. I need to multiply my money by six fold by January so I keep swinging for the fences. It is not working.
Anyway enouff venting, are you long or short for Friday?
    Lester

Hi anna, found my way over here. Looks really RED HOT so far. I don't think we want to see red in our accounts LOL. I closed all my GLD Calls today...thanks. I had a SPY Call trade that went bad on me. Paid 2.72 for some Dec 111 set a trail stop for 0.10 so the stop was 2.62. The mofo executed at 2.53. WTF is that.
    Lester
  • Hi lester Hope you're enjoying Europe! so expensive right? I am chaning to hot pink cause I am superstitious LOL

Hey anna, I have not bben spending much euros except on lots of German beer. I should have never decided to trade by Blackberry. It takes too long and I am always sneaking a peek at the Blackberry during trading hours Twhich I dinner here) and that is rude to my clients. To make matters worse I decided to go mega short today and have lost my ass. Back to where I was two weeks ago.

  • Hey trying to keep it under wraps on ES, don't want Mole to have a blow out!
But I have a different way of interacting with folks with kindness and patience :)
  • suiciderats
you are going to do well with this site! i am excited for you... believe it or not, some folks appreciate kindness & patience more than abrasive & egocentric gestures. ;)

something to do with karma i guess... i can tell this will be an awesome learning environment for hot trader babes and their guests.

mole is a superb technician, but his self-proclaimed insanity/german heritage will have its following and you will have your own platform now!
  • thanks Suiciderats! me too and I want it to be a happy enviorment where folks can be engaging and not screamed at.

He has a genius IQ but needs a EQ to go with it. Emotional connection with people.

or you have some way to have your constant income
like sell iron condor?or sell spread?
this is what i learn these days and i feel comfortble with
    this way or trade..
before this i just only buy and put option
cause me a really really "hurt"
so maybe i can get lot and more information from you..
just looking forward till this blog is begin..
KILLING WALLSTREET ONCE OPTION A TIME
    its really good..
    thanx again anna
  • I usually do debit spreads bearish or bullish and limit my risk, and try to get a nice reward :)
glad to see you here once we open it will really get going, hitting for Tuesday of next week :)
  • Just to let you guys know the ISRG bear put spread I put on today, should do excellent tomorrow!
It is down 16 points AH. :)
  • ISRG, I did a strangle ISRG with OTM NOV strikes, and it took all morning of watching and selling, just to break even-( wasting time) -The put side of the equation decided to go delta 5, not 15--that was really unfair!
how did the bear put spread do?
  • Hey Zstock unfortunately you got IV burn on both sides, next time you do a strangle for earnings you need to do it 2/3 weeks ahead of time. :) (when the IV is lower)
I rarely do straddles or strangles as they have to be timed perfectly.
I did well thank not double but bought 3.35 and sold 4.50 (one day not bad) :)
  • BigIslandLife

    Anna,
I have been following yours and several others ideas and trades on Slope for several months. I'm relatively new at this but am spending tons of time studying and reading. One of the things I like about your style is that you seem to makes lots of trades using many different strategies. Don't know how you would feel about this but I would like to hear from you about how you started and what you think is the best way to learn the various option strategies. I also saw a while back that you lived in NC. Where?
    Thanks, TS
  • Hi TS, thank you so much for coming to visit. here is where I first started http://www.optionetics.com
See if there is a free workshop near you to get a feel.

You're lucky I see your finger off that trigger in the picture little lady!

None of my handguns have safeties. Why? Because it's between your ears. If that one doesn't work then you will probably keep the safety on when you need it off.

What's the loudest sound in the world? "CLICK."
